Katie's Soccer ~ April 2006

Katie started soccer this year. She's playing up in Holton where she has quite the fan base! She started off great and really got into the practice. Her team is the bear cubs. She was agressive with the ball, loved defending the goal and helped keep the other kids in line. Literally... she helped everyone line up neatly as they awaited their turn to kick. So that was practice...

....Then there was the game...You might notice her absent from the above game pics. Her team is the green team. If I would've known how quickly her soccer interest would end I would have pulled out my camera more quickly. She started the game and was having fun for about one minute. Then she got mowed over by someone going for the ball (her own teammate) and ended up at the bottom of the pile of kids. She came out of the game with scraped knees and sore bones. And that was it for that game.
Game #2 was almost an exact replay of game #1. She played for about 10 seconds this time and then the ball was kicked out of bounds. She was hit with the ball (gently) on the in-bounds play and that was it. Wish us luck for game #3! We've been practicing different skills and games to get ready, such as dodgeball. She's still very excited about it so we'll see...
Update: The rest of the season went very smoothly. Katie and her team really toughened up and had fun.
